AdventHealth For Children (formerly Florida Hospital for Children) is in Orlando, Florida. It serves as a clinical teaching affiliate to Florida State University. In addition, it is one of the preferred teaching sites for LECOM, KCUMB and UCF. The Children’s hospital has over 200 inpatient beds, including a 22-bed PICU, 9-bed CVICU, and a 90-bed NICU. The Children’s Emergency Center at AdventHealth for Children is the site for the pediatric emergency medicine rotation, with 16-bed Pediatric ER. The Emergency Department’s annual volume is approximately 27,000 visits per year.
Students are expected to participate in patient care by obtaining history and performing physical exams on pediatric patients coming to the emergency department. In addition, with the help of the residents and attendings, the students are expected to formulate the appropriate plan of care for the patient and follow its execution. The rotation will also include a dedicated student lecture series and a procedural skills workshop.
